		<description>Shannon,
You're in SPAIN! by now and probably couldn't care less about microchip tracking devices! But I'll share my news, anwya. I heard a story on NPR this week about how everything in the world will soon be fitted with them. (Not everyONE ... yet, but all manufactured products.)

Walmart is mandating that all their suppliers provide products with these chips by the end of 2004 to help them track inventory. Unfortunately, where Walmart leads, others soon follow...

Privacy issue groups are all over this, because who's to say that the chips will be removed (or deactivated, I suppose) once you leave the store, hmmm? Do you really want "Big Brother" to know exactly what products you've purchased? Welcome to the Brave New World ...

<description>Well, Shannie, I know the chip for pets must be scanned and most vets have the scanner - it tells you the name and number of the owner. It's not a gps unit that I know of. The gps units they have for criminals are as big as lunch boxes. It'll happen soon and it will have a remote that you can use to make your lost keys beep - that is available thru sharper image I believe.

<description>I love your chip idea- woould work well for lost kids-Tom, of our 4 was always getting lost because he'd get immersed in something and not notice the other five of us moved on. But with a wallet, suitcase or pocketbook, if just pressing your talisman could not only summon the police but could set off an alarm in the stolen chip containing item think what a deterrenttht migth be - try getting off a train or crowded vaporetto platform with something buzzing or ringing in your hand. We should work on this!
